1) First find out Miss Smith's personal trigram and element. Her trigram is Ken (Diagram 1) belonging to the Earth element which is Western Life.

2) Draw the floor plan as shown in Diagram 2, then find the centrepoint and divide the building into the 8 Sectors as in Diagram 3

3) Use the floor plan in Diagram 3 to draw the 8 sectors for Miss Smith's personal trigram/ element and add the 4 good stars and 4 bad stars. (Diagram 4)

4) Find the sitting and facing position for the building. It is sitting south west and facing north east. This is the trigram Kun, which is also Western Life. (Diagram 5)

5) Draw the 8 sectors for the building using Diagram 5 and then add the 4 good stars and 4 bad stars onto the floor plan. (Diagram 6)

6) Check whether the personal trigram/element and the flat trigram/element match - which they do in this case because the flat belongs to the West 4 Mansions and Miss Smith belongs to Western Life.

7) Make sure all the important rooms such as the bedroom, kitchen, living room, study etc are in the 4 Good Star areas. In this case the the kitchen and living room and main door are in good star areas. Unfortunately the bedrooms are in bad areas. They need to be moved into the west (Yearly Progress) or north west (Good Doctor). If this isn't possible, then move the bed within the bedroom so it is sitting in the north east and facing south west.

8) To increase the finances of the household, the treasure point should be located, which is in the western corner of the flat. Here you should put a shrine or money tree.

9) If you would like to generate more money, a fishtank should be placed in the East, opposite the front door of the hall-way. According to the 3 Round 9 Fortune, when water is placed in the East a large amount of money will be generated. However, this will change after the year 2004 because we are currently in the 7th fortune until the year 2003. If you put water near the front door, when you open and close the door that movement can help generate more chi to flow into the building (chi is created by water, and water represents money).

10) You can also use Flying Star Feng Shui to determine the good or bad areas in this year. You can then advise your clients to avoid the bad areas and to stay in the good areas, but only for this year as Flying Star Feng Shui changes annually. (Diagrams 7 & 8)

11) Sometimes there is a conflict between 8 Mansions Feng Shui and Flying Star Feng Shui. For example, in 8 Mansions Feng Shui the west area of Miss Smith's house is in the Good Doctor direction, but according to Flying Star Feng Shui the number 3 star (bad chi) is in the area for the year (1999). So which system should you follow?

12) In situations such as this the Flying Star Feng Shui always takes precedence as it represents the energy at the present time. The west area should therefore be avoided for the time being -this can be reassessed when the Flying Star Feng Shui changes at the end of the year.

13) If the situation is reversed there is not any particular cause for concern. For example, in 8 Mansions Feng Shui the south-east of Miss Smith's house is in the bad 5 Ghosts direction but according to Flying Star Feng Shui the number 9 star is in the area for the year (1999). Such an area will procure good fortune most of the time.

14) For example, in 1999 the west has star 3 representing bad chi and conflict. That means the west is a bad area. It also means countries in the west will have many problems. Northwest has the No.2 illness star and the south has the No. 5 trouble star. So you can see that this year south, west and northwest are bad areas that need to be avoided.

15) The areas southeast (No. 9 star which represents good news) east (No.8 star which represents money) and southwest (No. 7 star which until 2004 represents good luck and busy - after 2004 No. 7 will represent thieves and robberies) all have the good star. So, if your door/bed/desk or your usual sitting area is in one of these areas this year, you will have a lot of good luck.
