Introduction to Master Simon Wong's Feng Shui Books

by Dr. William Dyson

I have to declare an interest at once. Master Simon Wong is my Tai Chi and Chi Kung teacher, and I write as his student and admirer. He is a man of great knowledge and ancient lineage who has made a lifelong study of the Chinese martial and cultural arts. His time is now dedicated to practising and teaching those arts and to fostering works of charity and goodwill.

Chinese culture has always understood that the universe is permeated by a vital force or energy. Everyone knows the Chinese word chi, sometimes translated as cosmic breath or vital principle; but it does not matter what name is given to this energy.

The important thing is that we cannot live healthily - we cannot live with joy and contentment - unless we live in harmony with it. Not living in harmony with it is like swimming against the current of a river, or walking into a high wind.

The Chinese people became aware of this force long before the occidental world did. By a process of trial and error extending over many centuries, they developed practices through which human beings might understand and use chi in its various manifestations.

In the West, the best known of these practices are the martial arts, and especially the "internal" arts of Tai Chi Chuan, Bagua Chang and Hsing Yi Chuan. More and more people have experienced the benefits of acupuncture and related therapies. More recently, the West has become aware of the art of Feng Shui, to which this book is a guide. Feng Shui - literally "wind-water" - is sometimes called the art of placement. It is the art of managing or arranging our environment in such a way as to create a fruitful relationship between ourselves and the chi which flows through all parts of it.

Master Wong is a highly accomplished practitioner of Feng Shui and has helped many people over the past ten years or more.

But the Chinese people understand that to every positive there is a negative: every force has its 'dark side.'

Master Wong knows that Feng Shui can be harmful, or can fail to be beneficial, if misused or used by people whose understanding of it is inadequate. It is for this reason that he has decided to make his knowledge available in writing. The result is a volume full of knowledge and wisdom.

May these books prosper, and may Master Wong's work long continue.
